The family bike

With more kids, I needed a better way to get out on the bike and make it enjoyable for all. We upgraded to a cargo bike. And it has been great.

I’ve been a big fan of bikes for years. One of the things I look forward to most is exploring on two wheels with my kids. But, over the last few years the rides have become more infrequent. The problem: we’d never get far.
I have two kids and the older one would want to ride her own bike, but get tired early into the ride. And the younger one would want to come along too.
To help with this, I bought a Trail-gator attachment for the bike. This is allows you to attach a child’s bike to yours. It works by lifting their front-wheel off the ground. This is great, because when the younger one would get tired, you can attach their bike and tow them for the rest of the way. She’s only need to be reminded to not touch the rear brake occasionaly. But, ultimatley, the rides became more difficult and less fun with all of the extra weight.

I started looking at e-bikes. With a little pedal-assistance it would make it more enjoyable. I soon came across the Tern GSD.
I decided to make this the main bike for the family. The bike has some serious cargo carrying capacity and the electric motor just makes it fun for all of us.
I’ll be publishing the trails and adventures we go on. And reviewing the equipment we use. Giving you a glimpse of what it’s like to have a cargo bike in the family.
